So I came back from a short break to find that ADV starts streaming anime on some website(theanimenetwork.com) to promote their DVD’s.Genius?Not quite.Though it is a big step forward if american companies like ADV want to survive in the harsh anime industry.The idea is simple enough.Beat fansubs and video streaming sites at their own game and lock in on the big bucks.However, unless the quality of the subtitles are improved and the bugs while straming are ironed out it is still a work in progress in my opinion.On the using of Gurren Langann as the experimental guniea pig I have mixed feelings about it.It is a good series(probably the best in recent memory) but well the crappy subs just lower the enjoyment rate.Not to mention the whiners who say “I like dubs better,isnt there any dubs?”.I was also surprised that there are so many ignorant people about Gurren Langann(on the popular legit website forum I browsed through).Not many people screaming “OMG!” just alot of people concerned with video streaming quality.Anyway since its limited to american viewers it doesnt really make a difference to me other than general knowledge.If anybody is interested the first dvd release is available at therightstuff.com from $22.50?I’m not too sure but its a bargain for the retail price of $30.
According to Animenewsnetwork.com,”A design inspired by the Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann anime series has won an informal poll by the website of The Daily Telegraph newspaper for a redesign of the British flag. Ian Lucas, the Labour Party’s member of the British Parliament from Wrexham, Wales, suggested in a November 27 legislative debate that the Union Jack flag be redesigned to include an element of the Welsh flag — specifically the Welsh dragon. (The Union Jack currently has elements from the English, Irish, and Scottish flags.) The Daily Telegraph’s website began soliciting design suggestions from its readers, and held a informal online poll on twenty candidates it selected. Even after adjusting for “questionable voting patterns” in the last few days, a design (pictured right) with the skull icon from Gainax’s Gurren-Lagann series won the poll with 55% percent of the votes.”
According to the skull flag’s designer “Anonymous of Norway,” “[The design] represents shouting “UNION!” and joining together; kicking reason to the curb and doing the impossible; fighting the power, and piercing the heavens.” (The wording of the quote, particularly “piercing the heavens,” includes references to phrases in Gurren-Lagann.) The design is one of many submitted to the newspaper site after its call for reader design submissions was relayed to the Japanese 2channel and the international 4chan online bulletin board systems.
Amazing.Simply amazing.Though I am a big fan of Gurren Langann its still amusing that people would choose something like that.I dont see the majority of the voters knowing that it was from an anime.And if they did well it might have been a different story.It just shows you how universal Gurren Langann is and how it appeals to the normal folk(if they ever watch it…).Or they just might like the glasses and flames(I know I did).
Well it isn’t an official one but it sure is good.Its done by [MAD] with the original manga cut outs.The little colour pictures in there was a nice touch.Even though the was hardly any animation but the fast pace made it look alive.And how about that T-shirt that I like so much ^^(I AM BOSS) anyway though I havent blogged about minami-ke in the past weeks I think I rather just do a series review after it ends.So far its looking good.
It’s a trap!!! >.> haha well my brain stopped for a few minutes as i was just skimming through a description of moyashimon episode 9 with some screenshots.Though I really like the show this was totally unexpected since it was going down a educational/cute tone in previous episodes.I dunno much about kei(in pic) other than he likes sake and is a son of sake brewer.But from his name kei(possibly slightly more feminine to the average japanese and me) it was strange that he is a guy since most people would use kai since its more macho and such.But here is your answer..not really.Anyway I am seriously considering blogging this now.Hopefully I wont be gone too long before it does come out again.Final thoughts, that goth loli get up is seriously hot but i dont think we are gonna see some yaoi coz tadayasu is definitely straight(i think…maybe).Gonna have to see the manga to be sure.
This here is a really the reason why cats appear in so many japanese anime pop culture references.Its so cute its criminal.Apprently its called a scottish fold and I was a little disturbed at how much cuteness this thing could throw at me.Very impressive.I noticed that the cat toy is also used alot in some obscure anime which escapes my mind at the moment.
