Dark Days Ahead..

“The Japanese government issued a formal statement of requests to the government of the United States on regulatory reform and market competition policy on October 18, and included a request for the United States to help stop the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of Japanese animation online. Specifically, the formal statement mentions the spread of Japanese animation and other materials on video-sharing sites and peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.”

Interesting piece of news I got here..it seems the jap animation industry is once again complaining about p2p bittorent sharing and youtube damaging their multibillion dollar industry.Sigh…its just a sad thing really.40 years ago they would have been glad if anyone  outside japan cared about animation/manga let alone their own people since it was a new fad back then after WW2.Now its gotten too big and the greedy big shots are starting to squeeze out every penny out of the fans before the bubble bursts.Yes they are blaming people who download anime/manga/j-dramas for the decline in the anime & manga industry.I say they are the same people(fans) who are gonna pay the workers of all those companies(e.g animation studios) their salaries by buying merchandise and help popularise whatever it is they are releasing. If you don’t give the gaijin(outsider/foreigner) a break since he doesn’t get japanese very well then fine you lose your market share overseas(not today but sometime in the future). But hey…the thing is we gotta feed out faces today right??This crap attitude is gonna kill the industry one day.

I read that the otaku phenomenon is going to die out in a few years in my local newspaper last year.True or not I don’t know, but this is certainly going in the right direction.I suggest selective enforcement on series that are really susceptible to piracy like the well establish titles and curbing piracy back home first. The should be more awareness raised among the community to support the studios and authors.Instead of taking legal action on everybody use it as a last resort.Personally I think the decline of the industry is due to internal problems and not p2p so much if it was controled.Aging population, increasing competition, lack of talent etc are creeping in and the small players are finding it hard to cope.Do you know tough it is to make it even as a manga artist there? It’s insane and I respect those people and I can’t blame them for supporting this actions by their government because who are they to complain? It’s for the ‘good’ of all so to speak.
